| Couple among 3 arrested in Jammu and Kashmir with Rs 50 lakh Hawala money | | | News Agency of Kashmir | 11/4/2007 |
|  Udhampur, Nov 4 (IVNN): Udhampur police claimed to have arrested three persons including a couple in Jakhaini and recovered approximately Rs 50 lakhs of Hawala money from their possession.
The couple has been identified as Jamali Khan, son of Abdul Alam Khan and his wife Sameena Khan, both residents of Srinagar and third associate as Danish Anwar of Ajmer Sharief in Uttar Pradesh.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Alok Puri told News Agency of Kashmir that the couple along with another associate of Uttar Pradesh was on their way to Srinagar from Jammu in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK14/3937.
“The vehicle was stopped for routine checking at Jakhaini check post and police search led to recovery of the Hawala money, which was concealed in a CNG cylinder.” Puri claimed.
“An amount of Rs 46, 89,500 was hidden in the CNG cylinder and another Rs 2.75 lakhs were recovered from the possession of the trio.”
He said, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the money was send by one GM Bhat, an associate of Hurriyat Conference (G),” adding “the money was sent for funding militants of Hizbul Mujahideen as a logo of the outfit was also recovered from CNG cylinder.”
Earlier, SP Udhampur Anil Mangotra told News Agency of Kashmir that during routine checking at Jakhaini police check post cops recovered Rs 46,89,500 from a Tata Sumo in which a couple and another person was traveling.
He said that another Rs 2.75 lakh were recovered from the possession of the couple.
The SP further said that trio was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK14/3937 when cops during routine checking searched the vehicle at Jakhaini police check post.
He divulged that Rs 46, 89,500 of Indian currency was concealed in a CNG cylinder inside the vehicle. “A logo of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was also recovered from the vehicle,” he said.
“When cops asked about the CNG cylinder to Jamali Khan, he could not give any satisfactory answer that aroused suspicion,” he said, adding “on its search an amount of Rs 46, 89,500 were recovered.”
“The trio has been arrested and investigations have been initiated,” he added. (IVNN)
